Water Operator

HKA is working on behalf of Jacobs and this role is to support Jacobsâ work through HKA.
Level 1 Water Certification position is considered Operator in Training, pay is $19.60/hr
Level 2 Water Certification position is considered Operator, pay is $21.10/hr.
Level 3 Water Certification position is considered Operator I, pay is $22.60/hr.
General Statement
Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment and distribution system on an assigned shift. This position typically holds or is working on first level water treatment certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs on water treatment and/or distribution system
- Installs operates and repairs water distribution and collection systems including mains, service lines, fire hydrants, water valves, PRVâs and water meters
- Reads and monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
- Starts and stops equipment, and operates valves to route and control flow
- Learns and gains skills involving the maintenance of equipment and servicing work in the plant
- Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water treatment and distribution system
- Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
- Observes and reports abnormalities to supervisor
- Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
- Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses
- Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
- Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures
- Ability and willingness to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
- Performs other duties as required
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification at a level required by the State in which the project is located
- One year of experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants
- Possess a valid driverâs license
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operations of engines, pumps, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; basic biological and chemical principles
